위안부 역사로 본 여성 인권 특별전 Women’s Rights Exhibition through the History of Comfort Women

캘리포니아의 중심지인 Grand Park에서 Alight: 위안부 역사로 본 여성 인권 특별전을 진행함으로써 비춰지지 않았던 어두운 역사의 한 부분을 조명하고자 한다. 이번 전시는 아직 해결 되어지지 않은 일본군 성노예 문제를 통해 현대 여성의 문제를 바라보는 계기를 마련한다. 현재, 역사의 주된 전장이라고도 일컬어지는 미국에서 미국 정치인들과 시민들의 참여로 이루어진 프로젝트를 진행함으로써 일본이 만들어 내는 한국과 일본의 문제가 아닌 인류보편적 가치의 문제로 이끌어 갈 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 무력 하에 유린되는 여성 인권에 대한 인식을 제고 하고자 한다. 더불어 국제적 역사 공감(일본군 위안부)과 평화적 메시지 공유/화합과 치유의 메시지 전달를 전달하고 우리의 이야기에 전 세계인들의 많은 공감대를 이루어내는 프로젝트가 될 예정이다.

By organizing the Women Rights-Comfort Women Exhibition in the Grand Park, California, Jun Hye Yeon now brings the darkest part of human history into public space. This exhibition provides viewers the opportunity to discuss women’s rights in contemporary society through the lens of unresolved problems in comfort women issue. This exhibition is composed of American politicians and citizens’ support; thus it leads the issue of comfort women into ‘universal’ and ‘human right abuse,’ not a limited diplomatic issue between Korea and Japan. Plus, it questions the value of women’s rights that have been abused during human history. The main objective of this exhibition would to deliver message of harmony and peace and to bring awareness of women’s rights in a global context.
